2010 – South Carolina Ed Tech Conference – Myrtle Beach, SC
After successfully setting up and running a video-conference between a 5th grade teacher and Harriette Gillem Robinet, the author of the book 40 Acres and Maybe a Mule, I wanted to share the effects and the How-to steps with other educators.
Part 1: This session opened with an explanation of the positive and unforeseen effects that video-conferencing had on the students in the class. Students were begging to write and read after speaking to the author.
Part 2: I offered the classroom and IT prep that needed to take place to have a successful video-conference from having students research the writer and ask her intelligent questions that were submitted to the teacher for review to making sure the author and classroom teacher both have the technology needed to use Skype.
